Maddy's Story
Discovering One's Calling
At heart, Madison Mills is a woman who identifies with nature and all things wild. Finding her true self when in connection to the natural world.
With a background in studying Environmental Horticulture at Santa Barbara City College. There, she became certified in Permaculture Design and fell in love with engaging in the natural world. In order to continue her education, she is currently studying Environmental Science and Resource Management at CSU Channel Islands.
Here, she has been given a multitude of opportunities to get into the field, getting her hands in the dirt, and exploring the active means of restoration and conservation. This includes time spent on Santa Rosa Island, taking classes and helping with restoration projects such as the Santa Rosa Island Cloud Forest.
Working with nonprofits such as Santa Monica Mountains Fund and Wishtoyo, have allowed her to connect with active means of conservation in today's world. All while gaining experience in participating in current Environmental Science issues.
Additionally, working as a STEM Writing Tutor at CSUCI's Writing and Multi-literacy Center, allows her to bridge the gap between science and communication. Feeling strongly that science and the natural world should be accessible to all, she uses her writing skills to help with environmental advocacy when not in the field.
This drive has led her to many incredible, like-hearted souls, who like her, feel the pulse of the old wild ways that are rooted in connectivity, respect, and love. She finds joy in working with others to discover the means of healing and revitalizing nature and its people.
